Overview

Gabriel’s main area of focus is on the liberatory potential of mediation. His path to mediation began when he had the fortune of having perspective altering experience, participating in restorative justice circles, which spurred further study and research in community based conflict resolution. These experiences, and reflection upon the many ways in which harm can be addressed peacefully (which is not the status quo), cemented the idea that active listening and resolute kindness can be a radically transformative experience for all involved and provide greater understanding, thereby facilitating constructive communication and leading to the resolution of highly complex problems.

Professional Experience

Gabriel is a licensed attorney in the State of New York. He also holds a B.F.A from The New School and a Master's Degree from New York University.

Gabriel has been mediating unofficially since childhood, but began formally meditating during law school. While earning his J.D. he concluded that the costly adversarial nature of legal practice and litigation was generally ineffective for actually resolving people's problems. Having witnessed conflict resolution providing better outcomes for the very people he went to law school to help,  he refined and developed a robust skill-set centered around ethical conflict resolution and advanced negotiation strategies.

Upon meeting his mentors and finding hope in the possibility of helping people navigate serious conflict in a way that results in qualitatively better outcomes than the courts can provide, he pursued a clinical mediation practice of divorce and family mediation, and gained exposure to other areas of mediation such as neighbor and renter disputes and workplace discrimination disputes. Gabriel also offers social and conflict coaching to individuals who cannot get those they are in dispute with to mediate, but want guidance on how to have difficult conversations and resolve conflict more peacefully.

Gabriel opened his own mediation practice in 2023 and has continued to study restorative justice and mediation and is continually training to better serve his clients.
