Professional Experience

Alec Chapa is committed to helping groups of people work together more collaboratively, transparently, and effectively.

An accomplished mediator, conflict resolution practitioner, and published researcher, Alec has worked with employers, business owners, landlords and tenants, HR leaders, and nonprofits to prevent and solve legal problems, support collaborative decision-making, and constructively resolve conflicts before they turn into expensive lawsuits.

Alec holds a Bachelor of Science in Conflict Resolution from Portland State University, with certifications in Human Resources (SHRM-CP) and Project Management (PMP). He received special training in advanced research from the Department of Ed's McNair Scholars program, business management training from Maestro’s Entrepreneurship Accelerator program, and community conflict resolution training from the U.S. Department of Justice Community Relations Service. He previously served as co-chair for the Ombuds Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution from 2024 to 2026, before beginning his time on the Alliance Advisory Board for Close to Home, improving San Antonio's homeless prevention and response system. As a certified Long-Term Care Ombudsman for the State of Texas and a former chair for the Texas Association Mediators Board of Directors from 2024 to 2025, Alec is well-versed in negotiation, mediation, and ombuds.

A dedicated volunteer, Alec mentors and advises small businesses and startups at Geekdom, mediates disputes for Bexar County (among others), and offers pro bono eviction mediation services to Close to Home, San Antonio's HUD-designated agency in coordinating homelessness solutions. He is familiar with American Sign Language (ASL) and Spanish.
