An internationally experienced mediator expands Mosaic’s capacity to serve businesses and individuals across Dallas–Fort Worth with mediation, arbitration, and negotiation coaching.
As Mosaic continued expanding beyond South Texas, one priority became increasingly clear: Growth should never come at the expense of quality.
Rather than building a large roster for the sake of numbers, we set out to recruit professionals whose experience, philosophy, and approach aligned with Mosaic’s commitment to collaborative dispute resolution.
While completing additional mediation training by Manousso Mediation & Arbitration LLC, founder, Alec Chapa, crossed paths with Ron DePaola, an accomplished mediator whose career spans Canada and the United States. The two connected after the training, and Alec immediately recognized Ron’s passion for the field and eagerness to expand his caseload.
His addition expanded not only Mosaic’s geographic reach into Dallas–Fort Worth, but also the breadth of expertise available to businesses, organizations, and individuals seeking practical alternatives to litigation.
A Career Built Around Practical Conflict Resolution

Ron brings more than a decade of experience helping people resolve disputes outside of court.
His background includes:
- Appointment as a mediator by the Ontario Attorney General
- More than 150 mediated matters
- Experience in landlord-tenant disputes
- Small claims mediation
- Employment and wrongful dismissal cases
- Personal injury disputes
- Family conflict
- Arbitration
- Negotiation coaching
- Coaching law students in dispute resolution
Rather than specializing narrowly, Ron developed experience across multiple dispute types while maintaining the same philosophy:
“This form of resolving conflict is empowering to people and also more human-centric.”
– Ron DePaola
That perspective closely mirrors Mosaic’s own belief that durable agreements are built through collaboration rather than coercion.

Why Dallas Matters
Dallas–Fort Worth represents one of the nation’s fastest-growing metropolitan areas.
Growth inevitably brings conflict:
- commercial disputes
- employment issues
- housing disagreements
- family transitions
- contract disputes
- business partnerships
As these communities expand, so too does the need for experienced neutrals capable of helping parties resolve disagreements efficiently and constructively.
Ron allows Mosaic to better serve North Texas while maintaining our commitment to high-quality, relationship-centered dispute resolution.
Ron has delivered the same quality of service and a calm, compassionate demeanor that Alec expects from all of Mosaic’s practitioners, proving his fit in Mosaic was well received.

Experience That Extends Beyond Mediation
One quality that stood out during conversations with Ron was how often he reflected on lessons learned outside formal mediation.
Earlier in his career, while working in sales, he encountered a difficult disagreement with a colleague. His initial instinct was confrontation.
A supervisor pulled him aside and offered advice that would shape his professional philosophy:
“This is a team. We’re working together to ensure the client is happy. It will help to take a different approach. Engage them.”
The result surprised him. The conversation improved dramatically.
That experience reinforced something many mediators eventually discover:
Conflict is rarely improved through greater force; precision prevails over blunt force.
People usually respond better when they feel engaged instead of attacked. That experience helped make him a true believer in the value of a listening-first approach to engaging colleagues, clients, and anyone facing a tough situation.
Now Ron prides himself on his receptivity, always remaining humble and open to feedback from others. Ask any industry expert, and they will confirm: this openness as a lifelong student forges the best practitioners.

Helping People Save Face
One story Ron shared illustrates a challenge common in difficult negotiations.
The case involved a wrongful termination claim.
After reviewing the matter, both defense counsel and Ron saw significant weaknesses in the plaintiff’s position.
The defense was willing to negotiate… but only within a limited range.
Meanwhile, the plaintiff’s attorney appeared committed to a much more aggressive position.
Instead of forcing movement prematurely, Ron brought both attorneys together privately and allowed them to work through the legal realities directly. Sometimes, even when parties are otherwise ready for settlement, it’s the attorneys who hold on more than anyone.
After several minutes, positions began shifting naturally. With fewer parties in the room, both attorneys were able to hone in, boiling the issues down without slowing down discussions from matters temporarily set aside during the caucus. Just 10 minutes did a lot.
Most importantly, the eventual resolution allowed everyone to preserve professional credibility—including counsel.
That outcome reflects an often-overlooked aspect of mediation:
People do not simply negotiate dollars.
They negotiate identity, reputation, relationships, and dignity. Everyone needs to feel respected; but when questions of evidence, proof, and statute fuel debate, it can signal the opposite.
A well-timed caucus can sometimes be the key, as Ron’s professional judgement made clear. With those issues handled directly, the parties could preserve the other interests, and move on to drafting an agreement.
Why Ron Chose Mosaic

Mosaic was founded on the belief that dispute resolution should not be confined to a single process.
Complex conflicts often benefit from combining mediation, conflict coaching, organizational consulting, ombuds principles, systems thinking, and practical business strategy.
More options means more pieces to bring together the perfect Mosaic. Like the stewards we are, Mosaic practitioners work until the parties see it as complete.
Ron recognized that philosophy, leaned in, and earned every case that came his way.
His willingness to join Mosaic reflects more than an expansion of services. It reflects a shared vision that dispute resolution can be proactive, interdisciplinary, and centered on helping people solve problems before litigation becomes the default.

Expanding Expertise Across Texas
With Ron joining the mediator panel, Mosaic strengthened its ability to serve clients throughout Dallas–Fort Worth while continuing to grow across Texas.
Clients now have access to support in matters involving:
- Business disputes
- Landlord-tenant conflicts
- Employment disagreements
- Wrongful dismissal
- Family mediation
- Personal injury negotiations
- Arbitration
- Negotiation coaching
Matching disputes with mediators whose backgrounds fit the unique circumstances of each case remains a core part of Mosaic’s approach.

Looking Forward
Building a dispute resolution firm isn’t simply about increasing capacity.
It’s about assembling professionals whose experience and values complement one another.
Ron DePaola brings international experience, practical wisdom, and a deeply human approach to conflict resolution.
His addition represents another step toward Mosaic’s broader vision: creating a statewide network of experienced neutrals capable of helping communities, organizations, and individuals resolve conflict earlier, more effectively, and with greater respect for the people involved.
